The clogged drain (or something else too?) meant that the toilet area had a generally bad smell for our entire visit. The bathroom basin drain was clogged, and we had to repeatedly request maintenance to fix this, with the hotel simply ignoring our request after the second half-hearted and ineffectual "fix". Compared to our previous visits, the hotel and service have gone down significantly. We visited the Palace of the Lost City in November 2022 for a five day, four night midweek break, and were extremely disappointed. My impression is that this exceptional and global jewel of a hotel with its unique architecture and setting has been beset by lazy and incompetent managers who do not uphold the most basic quality and service standards and have done too little or nothing to train and upskill the staff. I have been at the Palace many times before since 1993 with family, guests and business partners to whom I wanted to show the best in South Africa. Wifi signal is fluctuating badly, making internet calls unreliable. Oh, and the pool tiles are infested by black algae and an unrepaired pool light is floating behind the pool fountain, maybe after having failed to electricute an unsuspecting guest. The reception and concierge staff are untrained and struggle to communicate and end up arguing with each other about how to answer a simple question, which way to get to the wave pool. The only lunch option is the pool bar serving deep fried lowest quality chicken bits or fish and chips where salt is the substitute for cooking skills. One man’s dream has lead to a first-class hotel group, Sun International, which is known for consistently providing dream summers and spectacular accommodation over the years.Dirt and grime in the groove around the glass table tops of the the breakfast tables, decomposing oysters on the breakfast buffet, stale bread, mushy salomon, grey ham slices, an abandoned egg station, are not the breakfast standard anyone paying 5star rates wants to experience. The Waterworld, near the Cabanas Hotel is available for active water sports, such as water skiing and tube riding.įor discerning diners, there are gourmet restaurants, such as the Raj Restaurant, perfect for lining the stomach before a night out at Sun City’s world-class casino, whilst the arcade is perfect for children. This Centre also hosts plenty of other things for children and adults to occupy themselves with, including good restaurants and plenty of fast food outlets. Other activities can be conveniently booked through the Welcome Centre, which adjoins the Entertainment Centre. The Valley of Waves brings you the sea - with tropical palms, a white beach and waves up to a 1,8 metres! The Temple of Courage (in the Valley) will give you the slide of your life, whilst the the Lazy River meanders slowly around a kidney shaped island. The sparkling and spacious pool is normally surrounded by patrons sipping on cocktails, soaking in the rays. This luxurious palace is truly majestic in design – its architectural masterpiece depicts Africa with the most intricate details, such as life-like statues of the various wildlife. ![]() Sun City has four hotels, which, between them, cater to every visitor’s needs: the 3 star Cabanas Hotel, the 4 star Sun City Hotel, the 5 star Cascades Hotel and the ultimate 5 star Palace of the Lost City Hotel. The glamorous retreat provides endless entertainment for adults and children alike. The likes of Elton John and Ray Charles have performed at the famous Sun City Superbowl, while Gary Player opened up two international-standard 18-hole golf courses, the Gary Player Golf Course and the Lost City Golf Course. Conveniently located in close proximity to both Johannesburg and Pretoria, it is a preferred choice for local and foreign holiday-goers. It is an oasis of sunshine and never-ending excitement a place to relax and let go.
